ASICS Distribution Center Installs Second Solar Rooftop

ASICS, an athletic design and manufacturing company, has installed a second solar rooftop at its Byhalia Distribution Center in Byhalia, Mississippi.

The project was completed through a partnership with cleantech solutions provider PowerFlex.

The largest solar system in Byhalia, the new 1MW solar rooftop brings the total solar power generated at the distribution center to 2MW, which will power approximately 48% of the building’s loads and directly offset its utility costs.

PowerFlex coordinated the interconnection agreement between ASICS and municipal utility NorthCentral Electric, which includes net metering, allowing ASICS to contribute to the grid and boost grid resiliency.

“As ASICS continues towards a goal of reducing our overall CO2 emissions by 63% by 2030, today’s announcement is a strong step forward,” said Kyle Koestler, Director of Operations, ASICS North America, in a statement. “The PowerFlex team were great partners in helping seamlessly complete the second rooftop solar project without disrupting our day-to-day business at the distribution center.”

The additional 1MW of solar power is projected to provide $100,000 in energy savings during its first year of operation. The environmental benefits of the two systems are equivalent to the removal of 330 gas-powered passenger vehicles per year, or offsetting the electricity of approximately 290 households annually.
