SED to host 1st Renewable Energy Sourcing Forum

In response to growing interest in renewable energy among corporate and institutional energy buyers, Smart Energy Decisions has announced the launch of an innovative new event focused entirely on helping large electric end users accelerate their adoption of renewable energy.

The Renewable Energy Sourcing Forum, to be held Nov. 8 through Nov. 10 at the PGA National Resort in Palm Beach Gardens, Fla., will offer an opportunity for energy management professionals — from those who have just started looking at renewable energy to those with experienced, industry-leading programs — to advance their approach to successfully incorporate renewable energy into their plans. The need for this focused invitation-only event has been validated by feedback from Smart Energy Decisions readers; Innovation Summit attendees; and the advisory board.

"Our community of readers has clearly communicated the need for focused education, resources and relationships that can help ensure their success in renewable energy sourcing," Smart Energy Decisions founder and editorial director John Failla said.  "Our goal is to compliment the fine work already being done in this area by organizations such as the World Wildlife Fund, the Business Renewables Center and the Renewable Energy Buyers Alliance."

In the early stages of the unraveling of the U.S. EPA's Clean Power Plan under the Trump administration, industry observers expect corporations, institutions, cities and other community aggregators to become the primary drivers of demand for renewable energy in the U.S., eventually replacing state mandates for greener power portfolios. The Renewable Energy Sourcing Forum aims to help those players create, execute or accelerate their respective strategies and programs for increasing profitability and decreasing carbon emissions through the use of clean energy.

To ensure that the Renewable Energy Sourcing Forum caters to the specific needs of large end users, Smart Energy Decisions is developing the format and content alongside a steering committee of corporate energy executives whose initial members include Rob Threlkeld, global manager of renewable energy for General Motors Co., as committee chair; Adam Kramer, executive vice president of strategy at Switch; Dave Reid, global energy and productivity leader at Celanese; Michael Barry, head of sustainable business operations at Bloomberg LP; Jeff Myrdek, global energy leader for CBRE Group Inc./Cisco Systems Inc.; Art Justice, vice president of energy and sustainability at Cinemark Theatres and David Templeman, director of environmental, health and safety at CBS Corp. Additional input is being provided by Smart Energy Decisions advisory board members including executives from Amazon Web Services, Becton Dickinson, HP, Lockheed Martin, Merck, Procter & Gamble and Whole Foods.

Through a blend of keynote presentations, energy executive-only sessions, panel discussions, private boardroom briefings and one-on-one meetings with suppliers, topics on deck at the event will include renewable energy product options; deal structures; risk management and financing strategies; common pitfalls to avoid and more.

On the supplier side, renewable energy services advisory firm Altenex has joined the event as presenting sponsor. Altenex’s commitment illustrates its ongoing work to help companies and other large energy users advance their use of renewable energy. Altenex is an Edison Energy company.

The Renewable Energy Sourcing Forum is one element of a broader initiative developed by Smart Energy Decisions that will also offer research and resources to help commercial and industrial energy management executives benchmark their progress and accelerate their adoption of renewable energy. Information about the broader Smart Energy Decisions Renewable Energy Sourcing Initiative will be announced in the near future.

"We're excited about the opportunity to serve the unique needs of our readers with this important initiative in support of their respective journeys in renewable energy sourcing," Failla added. "We believe the collective power of Smart Energy Decisions' readers has the potential to influence substantial change in the industry. We're honored to serve the industry with this initiative in the interest of realizing that potential."

The Renewable Energy Sourcing Forum is open to qualified energy management and sustainability executives at commercial and industrial companies and institutional organizations. In addition, a limited number of supplier sponsorships are being made available to product and service providers with a proven track record of serving these entities.

Energy management executives and suppliers interested in more information can visit the Renewable Energy Sourcing Forum website to request an invitation.
