Founder and Editorial Director
John has more than 30 years of experience in B2B media as an executive responsible for developing and managing digital media products, magazines, and face-to-face events.
Prior to launching Smart Energy Decisions, John launched and developed Green Retail Decisions, the leading online information resource for retailers on sustainable business practices. Green Retail Decisions was acquired by Stagnito Business Information along with the other media brands created by John at Tesoro Business Media. Prior to that, John spent 15 years at VNU (Nielsen) Business Media, where he was responsible for publications, trade shows, and online services serving several B2B markets.
Director of Event Operations
Lisa brings a broad and diverse background as a gregarious and consummate professional with over 25+ years of experience in relationship management, strategic development, project management, market research, public relations, business development and marketing communications. Although events were always part of her career journey, Lisa got bit by the Events Industry and quite naturally, became an event junkie. In the lifecycle of an event, you name it, she’s done it. Her specialty is in understanding a market and finding the right audience and partners. Because without an audience, you’ve got nothing.
A recent move has landed Lisa and her husband Jim in Mount Pleasant, SC, where she is just 4 miles to the Isle of Palms beach and just 20 minutes into downtown historic Charleston. She’s never leaving.
Director of Research and Content
Debra has more than 25 years of experience in market research and content development. In her current role, she manages all SED content development and leads SED's exclusive energy industry research including the annual State of Corporate Renewable Energy Sourcing and State of Distributed Energy Resources. Prior to joining Smart Energy Decisions in 2017, Debra was Research Director of Retail & CPG insights for EnsembleIQ and Stagnito Business Information, where she conducted editorial, sales, and marketing research for a variety of B2B media brands covering the retail sector as well as for custom research projects. Debra also worked as Research Director for Nielsen Business Media and VNU/Bill Communications.
Director of Educational Programs
Peter Kelly-Detwiler is an independent consultant with 29 years of experience in electricity markets. As a Principal at NorthBridge Energy partners, Peter currently provides strategic consulting to a variety of companies, with a focus on integrating new technologies into the evolving electric power grid. He is a frequent keynote speaker, workshop presenter and panel moderator at various energy conferences and is a contributor to Forbes.com and other publications.
Over the length of his career, Peter has held a series of executive positions, including SVP of Constellation Energy’s Demand Response unit, overseeing a business that ultimately grew to 1,700 MW of dispatchable load, with annual revenues exceeding $80 million. He holds granted or pending patents related to Smart Grid demand response applications. Peter is currently working on a book addressing the topic of innovation and disruption in the electric power industry.
Director of Industrial Relations
Fred has over 35 years of experience in the energy business. Prior to joining Smart Energy Decisions he managed the total energy needs of 65 building product manufacturing plants in North America. In his current role, he provides guidance to the Smart Energy Decisions team on issues that pertain to manufacturers that consume significant quantities of energy in their processes. He also serves as Smart Energy Decisions’ liaison with the large manufacturers that benefit from the services that we provide.
Fred has an MBA from Roosevelt University in Chicago and is an Association of Energy Engineers Certified Energy Manager. He has provided testimony before a number of state utility commissions and is experienced in negotiating PPA’s for solar and other alternative energy projects.
Alexandra is project manager for Smart Energy Decisions, managing social media and coordinating content related scheduling. She is currently studying to achieve her M.S. in Sustainability Management at Columbia University. Prior to this, Alexandra spent nearly five years working in nonprofit management for Inner-City Scholarship Fund, an education non-profit in NYC.
Manager of Customer Solutions
Tim Gaghan is the Manager of Customer Solutions at Smart Energy Decisions (SED). He is responsible for recruiting large energy buyers to SED’s hosted buyer events. Tim graduated from Penn State University in 2001 with a B.S. in Marketing. For the last four years, Tim has thrived in the events industry enjoying the ability to meet his clients in person. He lives near Philadelphia, PA, and of course, is an avid Eagles fan! Fly Eagles Fly!
