Cooper Tire & Rubber cuts energy use 18%

Findlay, Ohio-headquartered Cooper Tire & Rubber Co. said Aug. 11 that it has reduced energy usage intensity by 18% since 2009.

In releasing its 2016 corporate social responsibility and sustainability report, the manufacturing and design company also outlined its greenhouse gas reduction efforts that have resulted in an overall reduction in emission intensity of 12% since 2009.

The company's energy usage reduction was helped by a series of energy efficient lighting improvements, including at its Texarkana facility in Texas. The company said it has installed approximately 2,800 LED light fixtures, reducing energy consumption by 4.7 million kilowatt-hours per year.

Cooper said in its report that it is one of only two tire companies that qualify as an Energy Star partner under the standards of the U.S. DOE and EPA. Additionally, American Electric Power Co. Inc.'s "continuous energy improvement program" recognized the Cooper's Findlay, Ohio, plant for reductions in energy usage in 2016. Cooper's Texarkana plant has earned ISO 50001
energy management standard certification.
