Famous sliders chain looks to slash energy expenses

Quick service restaurant chain the Krystal Company, which operates more than 250 owned restaurants across the Southeast, has deployed new utility expense data management and energy management solutions in an effort to better control costs.

Krystal, known for its hamburgers, expects to better manage its energy spend across its sites with the help of Ecova, which will handle bill management, energy procurement services for deregulated natural gas markets, and utility rate monitoring and optimization, according to a news release. As an initial step to control costs, Ecova says it will deliver utility bill auditing and open and closing services to ensure continuous operations as Krystal's portfolio evolves.

Further strategic insights to sustain long-term energy and cost savings will be provided by Ecova's expense data management services. Ellis Broadie, corporate controller at Krystal, said in a statement that the partnership gives the company confidence to set more ambitious energy efficiency goals.

"By analyzing our energy bills, negotiating more cost-effective utility contracts, and providing data-driven recommendations and action plans to help drive down costs, Ecova will enable Krystal to realize significant savings and become more sustainable," Broadie said.
