Nestlé moves closer to GHG, RE goals

Nestlé reported that the company has reduced its greenhouse gas emissions by over 30% in the last 10 years and has achieved an overall reduction of 26.5% in manufacturing operations vs. 2010. The company remains on track to achieve their 2030 goal of zero environmental impact in all operations.

In their report, "Nestlé in society: Creating shared value and meeting our commitments 2017," released on Mar. 26, the company noted their progress against stated objectives. Among the highlights, Nestlé reported that 25.7% of the electricity they use now comes from renewable sources, on the way to their goal of 100%. The report stated, "The world’s leading companies are turning to renewable electricity and Nestlé is one of them."  Nestlé currently uses renewable sources, including solar, wind and hydropower, at 141 factories.

GHG emissions (Scope 1 and 2) in manufacturing operations have been reduced by 26.5% per metric ton since 2010. GHG emissions in distribution operations have been reduced by 4.3% since 2014, against a goal of 10% by 2020. The goal to cut GHG emissions by 10% in 100 major warehouses vs. 2014 by 2020 has been met early, as a 28.3% reduction has already been reached.

Paul Bulcke, Nestlé’s chairman and Mark Schneider, CEO, stated, "We recognize that for our company to be successful over time and create sustainable value for shareholders we must also create value for society."
