FedEx plans solar panels for distribution center

FedEx Ground Package System plans to add solar panels to the roof of its Cecil Commerce Center distribution center in Jacksonville, Fla., in what is estimated to be an almost 1.3-megawatt system.

According to a report in the Jacksonville Daily Record, the city is reviewing a permit application for SoCore Energy to add a photovoltaic solar array to the FedEx roof at a cost of almost $1.51 million. While FedEx Ground does not discuss project specifics until details are completed, permit documents show the FedEx Jacksonville array will cover 119,700 square feet of the 294,680-square-foot roof area.

FedEx Ground, based near Pittsburgh, is a subsidiary of Memphis-based FedEx Corp.
