SED’s Distributed Energy Forum premieres in 2019

In response to growing interest in Distributed Energy Resources (DER) among corporate and institutional energy buyers, Smart Energy Decisions has announced the launch of an innovative new event focused on helping large electric power users understand the opportunity and offer a roadmap for success in the adoption of DER.

The Distributed Energy Forum will be held June 24-26 at the Gaylord Rockies Resort in Denver. The Forum will offer an opportunity for energy management professionals to learn best practices in deploying behind-the-meter energy resources and engage with suppliers that can help them succeed.

The need for this focused, invitation-only event has been validated by feedback from Smart Energy Decisions readers and advisory board members.

“As the grid transforms from a highly centralized one-way distribution system to an increasingly decentralized two-way platform, large power users need targeted information, connections, and partners to succeed,” said John Failla, founder and editorial director of Smart Energy Decisions. “The SED Distributed Energy Forum in June will be a first of its kind, landmark event curated specifically to address the unique needs of large electric power users.”

A steering committee of industry thought leaders has been formed to work with Smart Energy Decisions on the development of the content of the Forum. Members of the committee include Art Justice, vice president of energy and sustainability, Cinemark; Fred Mazurski, director of energy, USG Corporation; Marty Sedler, director of global utilities and infrastructure, Intel, Rob Threlkeld, global manager of renewable energy, General Motors, and Dr. Wolfgang Bauer, distinguished professor & senior consultant, Michigan State University.  Smart Energy Decisions advisory board members will provide additional guidance.

Among the topics and technologies to be covered at the Distributed Energy Forum are:

  • Onsite generation – Renewables (solar, biomass, waste to energy), CHP, cogeneration
  • Energy storage
  • Resiliency
  • Demand response
  • Microgrids
  • Electric vehicle charging infrastructure
  • Fuel Cells
  • Controls & software

The Distributed Energy Forum offers a unique format that delivers focused education, high-level peer networking, and meetings with potential supplier partners that can help to accelerate their adoptions of  DERs.

This new event is the cornerstone of Smart Energy Decisions’ broader Distributed Energy Initiative which has been developed to help educate large electric power users on the deployment of these rapidly growing technologies. As part of the Initiative, results of an industry-first DER Research Study will be presented to help define and benchmark best practices in this dynamic sector.

“The tremendous industry response to our earlier Renewable Energy Sourcing Initiative has inspired us to address DER’s in the interest of helping large electric power users tackle this next challenge,” said Failla. “Our goal is to fill the void for a roadmap to the successful deployment of distributed energy resources.”

The Distributed Energy Forum is one of three events being produced by Smart Energy Decisions’ in 2019. Up first is the Innovation Summit, which will take place March 11-13 in Houston This invitation-only event will focus on "The Future of Energy Management," addressing a wide range of topics on both supply and demand management.

Keynote speakers for the Innovation Summit include Michael Barry, head of sustainable business operations, Bloomberg LP; Devan Tracy, senior project engineer, Lockheed Martin, and Jesse Warren, sustainability program manager for buildings & operations, University of Virginia.

The 2019 Edition of the highly acclaimed Renewable Energy Sourcing Forum is set for September 16-18 at the Ponte Inn & Club in Ponte Vedra Beach, Fla. The RE Sourcing Forum, now in its third year, is a unique and proven platform that is helping renewable energy buyers from commercial, industrial, higher education, and municipal entities accelerate their adoption of renewable energy sourcing.

Smart Energy Decisions events are open to qualified energy management and sustainability executives at large electric power users. In addition, a limited number of supplier sponsorships are available to leading product and service providers with a proven track record of serving these entities.

Energy management executives and suppliers interested in more information can visit the Innovation SummitDistributed Energy Forum, and Renewable Energy Sourcing Forum websites to request an invitation.
