Verizon reaffirms commitment to 2035 carbon neutrality
Verizon reaffirmed Jan. 20 their commitment to being carbon neutral by 2035 through the use of reducing emissions and investing in renewable energy and carbon offsets.
The announcement followed Verizon’s participation at the 50th World Economic Forum Annual Meeting in Davos, Switzerland.
The telecommunications company also plans to achieve their 2035 goal through other means, including sourcing or generating renewable energy equivalent to 50% of its total annual electricity consumption by 2025 through on- and off-site renewable investments.
Verizon was also the first U.S. telecommunications company to issue a green bond. The $1 billion bond targets renewable energy, energy efficiency, green buildings, sustainable water management, and biodiversity and conservation, including planting trees and undertaking other reforestation efforts in areas hit by natural disasters.
Verizon has also pledged to set a Science-Based emissions reduction Target by September 2021.
