Giant Food plans EV charging installations across Mid-Atlantic

Giant Food announced June 23 that they are installing electric vehicle charging stations that will be free use at select stores across Washington, D.C., Maryland, Virginia and Delaware.

The grocery chain partnered with Volta on this project, who will be installing 60 EV charging stations at Giant stores by the end of 2020. A total of 200 stations are expected to be installed by mid-2021.

“Providing our shoppers and communities free electric charging services is part of Giant’s larger sustainability efforts,” Ira Kress, president of Giant Food, said in a statement. “We are excited to offer our customers who opt for electric cars the satisfaction of quick and free charging while they shop. It’s a value for our shoppers that also benefits the environment.”

Each of the selected Giant Food locations will be receiving two charging stations that will also feature two-sided 55-inch displays that highlight in-store specials and promotions. The pursuit of these charging stations is a progression of Giant’s sustainability goals and greenhouse gas reduction targets.
