Kimberly-Clark, HPE, Manheim strike deal with 108 MW solar project
Kimberly-Clark, Hewlett Packard Enterprise and Manheim will soon be receiving power from a 108 MW solar project under construction in Texas through a special agreement with the power company.
Constellation agreed to purchase power and project-specific RECs from 174 Power Global, the developer of the Rayos del Sol Solar Project, based on the commitments from the three large commercial customers. Constellation will then sell the power and RECs to the customers’ retail accounts through Constellation’s Offsite Renewables (CORe) retail power product under 10-year agreements. The CORe product is meant to offer more customers access to large-scale, offsite renewable energy than would be available through traditional PPAs.
“We know that a healthy environment is just as essential as diapers to a baby’s development, and parents want to provide the best products for their baby with the smallest environmental impact possible,” Rebecca Dunphey, president of Kimberly-Clark’s North American personal care business, said in a statement. “Through this investment, which will offset energy consumption at our Paris, Texas facility, we’re proud to soon be manufacturing the majority of our Huggies, Pull-Ups, GoodNites and Little Swimmers products sold in North America with renewable energy.”
The combined commitment from the three commercial companies is expected to avoid more than 153,000 metric tons of CO2 annually. The project is currently under construction and is expected to be operational in 2022.
