Bimbo Bakeries adds new electric delivery trucks to fleet

Bimbo Bakeries USA announced Nov. 10 the renewal of a partnership that will increase the number of electric trucks in its delivery van fleet.

The baking company recently completed a 12-month pilot of five electric trucks from Motiv Power Systems within its delivery routes and agreed to order more electric trucks from the company. There are 23 new trucks in production and another 100 planned for deployment in California, New York and Pennsylvania delivery routes in 2021.

"We are pleased with the 100 percent uptime of our pilot vehicles and look forward to growing this partnership into 2021 with additional deployments," Eric McCann, Technical Fleet Manager for Bimbo Bakeries USA, said in a statement. "Sustainability is built into our company's purpose and incorporating these vehicles into our fleet is an important step toward reducing our dependence on fossil fuels. With Motiv's help, we're confident that we will meet our goals."

Bimbo Bakeries has focused other efforts on reducing its power and energy usage, decreasing its emissions and using an environmentally responsible waste management system to achieve its sustainability goals.
