STAG Industrial announces new solar in Illinois, Massachusetts

STAG Industrial announced Nov. 12 the installation of two solar installations in Illinois and Massachusetts that have a combined capacity of 3.5 MW.

The system in Illinois is the real estate investment trust’s first onsite solar installation in the state, while the one in Massachusetts is its fifth. Both are part of community solar programs facilitated by Black Bear Energy in partnership with STAG and developed by Green Street Power Partners.

Combined, the systems will be able to generate over 4.4 million kWh of electricity annually.

“We have a large presence in Illinois, and the passing of the Future Energy Jobs Act of 2017 gave us an opportunity to incorporate solar into another asset's roof,” Brian LaMont, Senior Vice President of Construction at STAG, said in a statement. “We are honored to be one of the first rooftop community solar projects in Illinois, and to be a part of Illinois' transition to a clean energy economy, enabling job creation and new clean energy resources.”

The solar systems are expected to come online near the end of 2020. Illinois is currently pursuing a target of 4,300 MW of solar capacity in the state by 2030 which will be aided by community projects such as the one created by Black Bear Energy and STAG Industrial.
