Lidl to install EV chargers at 300 stores by 2022

Lidl announced on Feb. 9 that it has installed more than 100 EV chargers at its Great Britain stores and hopes to install 250 more across 300 locations by 2022.  Lidl GB aims to provide customers with more access to solutions that will enable them to lead more sustainable lives and help progress EV adoption.

“We are committed to empowering our customers to make the right decisions for their lifestyle and are delighted to have reached this important milestone of bringing rapid charging for EVs to 100 of our stores,” Alan Barry, Chief Development Officer for Lidl GB, said in a statement. “We look forward to delivering this service to even more local areas in the near future as we continue with our investment.”

Pod Point is supplying the 50-kW chargers to more than a third of Lidel’s GB stores.

“When most people think of Lidl, they probably think of food and drink. However, the fact is that Lidl has made an enormous contribution to rapid charging infrastructure in Great Britain, as this significant milestone shows,” Erik Fairbairn, Pod Point Founder & CEO, said in the statement. “Currently 2.5 out of every 100 rapid chargers in the UK can be found at Lidl stores, and there are many more in the pipeline.”
