Facebook Buys Power from Floating Solar Farm

Facebook announced the purchase of 5 MW of solar power from the largest floating solar in Singapore, located in the Straits of Johor. A multi-year, virtual power purchase agreement (VPPA) calls for energy to be exported to Singapore's national grid. All the RECs from the solar farm are transferred to Facebook's Singapore operations, including the tech giant's first custom-built data center in Asia.

The solar farm is owned and operated by Sunseap, an Australian-based renewable energy company. Facebook and Sunseap also have VPPA for renewable energy exported from solar systems installed on more than 1,200 rooftops.

In a statement, Lawrence Wu, Co-founder and President of Sunseap Group said: "We are very pleased to be working with Facebook on a second VPPA. This partnership is another significant step for Sunseap towards helping corporations meet their sustainability goals. "We are grateful for the leadership shown by companies like Facebook in seriously embracing sustainability, whether through reducing waste or minimizing and offsetting their carbon emissions."
