Kering Plans Rooftop Solar for Italian Logistics Hub

Global luxury group Kering will soon be installing a 12.7 MW rooftop solar project at a Northern Italy location that will be one of the largest in Europe.

The luxury goods company and owner of brands like Gucci, Yves Saint Laurent and Bottega Veneta is working with Maxeon Solar Technologies on the installation, which should be completed by August. The solar array will be installed on two adjacent buildings and cover more than 55,260 square meters in total.

The company expects the installation to generate 13.5 GWh of electricity and mitigate 7,500 tons of carbon emissions annually. The facility could be energy positive upon completion, generating more energy than it consumes.

Kennew was selected to design and install the solar system at the logistics hub in Trecate, Italy. After the project is completed, the facility will be LEED-certified and is expected to win a Platinum rating, the first LEED Platinum-certified warehouse in Europe.

“This is one of Europe's most powerful solar roofs, and is just the latest in a rich portfolio of commercial solar projects that came to light thanks to our solid collaboration with Maxeon as an advanced-solar technology supplier,” Daniele Botti, managing director and co-owner of Kennew, said in a statement. “The customer had specific requirements that SunPower Maxeon panels were able to meet, offering a number of advantages such as maximized performance in a given amount of roof space over a long period of time, field-proven reliability, best-of-breed durability and an industry-leading 25-year warranty on product and power.”
