Wesleyan continues comittment to energy efficiency

Wesleyan University has signed a three-year agreement with Eversource Energy for an energy efficiency plan that is expected to save 3.2 million kWh of electricity annually and support the University’s goal to achieve carbon neutrality by 2050.

A report by News@Wesleyan said that Eversource’s participation in this partnership is made possible by its Energize CT initiative, a program that is funded by a charge on customer energy bills for the purpose of offering rebates, financing, and services to businesses and homes for energy efficiency and clean energy improvements.

The agreement is a continuation of energy efficiency efforts that have saved the University, located in Middletown, Conn., almost $4 million kWh of electricity annually over the past four years for savings in energy costs of about $480,000 per year and annual carbon reductions of nearly 262 tons.

A recent event to celebrate the signing of the agreement and the University’s sustainability efforts, the latest improvement was premiered—newly installed lighting arrays at the Freeman Athletic Center, Spurrier-Snyder Rink, Andersen Fitness Center, and Silloway Gymnasium. Combined, the project spanned 636,000 square feet and involved replacing 8,000 light fixtures.
