Lee targets 100% renewable energy by 2025

In an Earth Day announcement, the denim and apparel brand Lee pledged April 21 to pursue their new goal of powering 100% of their owned and operated facilities with renewable energy by 2025.

Lee recently launched their Indigood Denim collection, a product line that requires 60% less energy for production and reduces water needed by 100%. They have also launched initiatives that focus on sustainable sourcing of clothing materials and have established a new goal to source 100% sustainably-grown or recycled cotton by 2025.

"At Lee, we are committed to doing our part to help lead our industry toward a better future," Chris Waldeck, EVP and global brand president, said in a statement. "Our global sustainability goals will guide our actions and help accelerate our commitment to providing products that drive positive changes for our environment and communities, while delivering the quality and style consumers expect from Lee."

Roian Atwood, senior director of sustainable business, added: "With these targets, we are raising the bar on what consumers can expect from Lee in terms of environmental sustainability. For A World That Works is fueled by a sense of urgency and responsibility.  As we look ahead, we must continually challenge ourselves to redefine how we operate, so that we can help create a brighter future for our planet and our industry.”
