Darigold to Reduce Manufacturing Emissions 25%

Darigold will soon be rolling out new technologies and strategies that will reduce the emissions from its dairy-product manufacturing by 25%.

The farmer-owned cooperative is a subsidiary of Northwest Dairy Association, owned by more than 350 dairy farms, and is pursuing 2050 carbon neutrality. Darigold is working with the Port of Pasco in Washington to implement energy-saving strategies at its 400,000-square-foot facility that could mitigate over 300,000 tons of CO2e per year.

“Our producers have been at the vanguard of the dairy sector for over 100 years, constantly building on their outstanding record of sustainability and stewardship practices,” Stan Ryan, president and CEO of Darigold, said in a statement. “They are proud to boost the co-op’s competitiveness with this future-forward investment in a next-generation dairy facility, preserving the legacy of nearly 350 multigenerational farms.”

Darigold is investing approximately $500 million into the implementation of emission reduction projects. A few of these strategies include anaerobic digestion technology that uses extracted methane as a natural gas substitute and the installation of infrastructure to support a future fleet of electric vehicle semi-trucks.

The initial site development is expected to start in early 2022 and should be fully commercially operational by late 2023 or early 2024.
