Clean Power Alliance Inks PPA for Solar-Plus-Storage

Clean Power Alliance announced Sept. 3 a 15-year PPA that will allow it to source energy from a 300 MW solar project paired with a 600 MWh battery energy storage project.

The electricity provider signed a deal with EDF Renewables North America for its Desert Quartzite Solar-plus-Storage Project in Riverside County, Calif. The clean electricity from the project will go toward servicing customers in Los Angeles and Ventura counties beginning in February 2024.

At full capacity, the energy generated by the system is expected to avoid more than 669,000 metric tons of CO2 emissions annually and power more than 163,000 California homes.

The solar and storage facility is located on unincorporated land administered by the Federal Bureau of Land Management (BLM), which designated the area as a Solar Energy Zone (SEZ) and Development focus area specifically to build solar energy capacity.

“The clean reliable energy we will receive from the Desert Quartzite facility fits perfectly within our mission to improve the lives and environment of our customers and communities,” Ted Bardacke, executive director of Clean Power Alliance, said in a statement. “Our Board has identified solar-plus-storage as being key to our continued growth and a means to further improve reliability for our millions of customers. This project will also create many more green jobs here in Southern California.”
