Logitech Sets Climate Positivity Target

Logitech International released Sept. 9 its plan to be carbon neutral in its products and operations later this year on a path to be net zero by 2030 and, one day, climate positive.

The tech company will tackle this goal through its Reduce - Renew - Restore initiative, focused on minimizing energy-intensive products and activities across its product portfolio, operations, value chain and product lifecycle. In order to become climate positive, Logitech plans to invest specifically in renewable energy sources and in restoration programs.

The Reduce aspect of this strategy will focus on designing products that have a smaller carbon footprint from the materials used, efficiency in production and potential for circularity. For Renew, Logitech plans to expand its renewable electricity access through renewable utilities, onsite generation and the purchase of energy attribute certificates.

For Restore, the company will over the next nine years progressively increase investments in third-party projects for clean energy and carbon sequestration that support forestry conservation, renewable energy infrastructure, new carbon sinks and climate-impacted communities.

“Climate change is one of the biggest challenges of our generation. Yet reduction of the net carbon output levels caused by human action isn’t happening fast enough – we need to do more now to help shape a climate positive future,” CEO Bracken Darrell said in a statement. “We are accelerating our climate strategy to be carbon neutral this year, across all of Logitech activities and products. We will be net zero by 2030 with an ultimate goal to become climate positive. We’re going beyond what countries have committed to in the Paris Agreement and we’re doing it 20 years earlier because it’s work that cannot wait.”
