Seagate Transitions More Operations to RE

Seagate Technology Holdings, a mass data storage infrastructure company, announced that it has passed the 50% mark toward its 2030 goal of using only renewable energy to power operations.

The company announced that four of its seven manufacturing sites have transitioned fully to using renewable energy via solar installations and renewable energy purchasing contracts.

Seagate aims to power its footprint with 100% renewable energy by 2030 and reach carbon neutrality by 2040.

Details were provided in Seagate’s Sustainable Datasphere: FY2022 ESG Performance Report.

“At Seagate, we have always believed in data’s potential, which is why we are driven to help the world store and protect it,” said Dave Mosley, Seagate’s CEO in a statement. “To be successful, however, we must lead the way in addressing the numerous environmental, social, and governance impacts and challenges our industry presents.”

The company also saved ~21,000 MWh of electricity through energy conservation and efficiency initiatives in FY2022, exceeding its goal of 10,000 MWh.

Seagate lowered 5.8% of absolute market-based Scope 2 operational emissions in CY2021 vs. CY2020 while 1,352 MWh of solar was generated on-site in FY2022.
