Avantor Achieves Climate Goals with Environmental Task Force

Avantor, a global provider of products and services for the life sciences, advanced technologies, and applied materials industries, highlighted its continued momentum in reducing GHG emissions in line with its goal of a 15% reduction in Scope 1 and 2 GHG emissions by 2025.

The company reduced its Scope 1 and 2 GHG emissions by 12% as of the end of 2022, representing 80% toward its reduction goal.

To achieve its climate goals, Avantor developed an energy and emissions reduction strategy that invests in efficiency and conservation projects, as well as alternative energy sources. The company also established an Environmental Task Force that manages the emissions reduction strategy, including setting annual targets, tracking projects, and educating associates.

Avantor is focused on addressing its operational environmental footprint and supporting its value chain’s transition to a low-carbon economy. It implemented energy efficiency and optimization measures, which helped it decrease energy consumption by 3% in 2022, compared to the previous year. Additionally, it is seeking renewables and other low-impact energy sources.

The company also developed an Environmentally Preferable Products program, which helps customers make sustainable purchase decisions by designating products with attributes based on environmental criteria.

"At Avantor, mitigating our environmental impact is vitally important to our mission of propelling science forward, and we look forward to driving efforts to support sound climate science," said Michael Stubblefield, President and CEO at Avantor, in a statement. "We are well on our way to exceed our 2025 goal of a 15 percent reduction in Scope 1 and 2 GHG emissions and are committed to expanding on this progress."
