Real estate firm targets efficiency with pilot program
Hawaii's fourth-largest landowner, real estate companyfor its commercial assets in the state.
The Alexander & Baldwin Inc. subsidiary said Aug. 10 that it partnered with energy services company Carbon Lighthouse to implement the program, which launched this week at two properties on Oahu — Pearl Highlands Center and Kaka'ako Commerce Center — and the Kahului Office Building on Maui. Those properties were identified as the highest energy demands within ABP's Hawaii commercial portfolio, the company said in a news release.
"Energy efficiency is a priority for A&B," Kit Millan, ABP's vice president of asset management said in a statement "The program is a winning proposition: if successful, not only will we realize operational and financial efficiencies that will be shared with tenants, but we will contribute to broader sustainability efforts, which is of benefit to the environment and the community."
The pilot program will utilize a proprietary energy optimization technology, through which Carbon Lighthouse engineers will deploy hundreds of sensors throughout the three properties. The sensors will collect new data related to airflow, water, lighting and cooling usage, and will also identify onsite renewable energy opportunities.
Using the collected data, Carbon Lighthouse will then model hundreds of energy scenarios to arrive at a proposal intended to make most efficient use of energy at the properties. Depending on the success of the trial, ABP said it plans to expand the program to its other commercial properties.
