Google's next energy move
Could Google’s next move in clean energy be in the area of batteries?
According to a report by Bloomberg Technology, Neha Palmer, head of energy strategy at Alphabet Inc., Google’s parent company, said "We would like to do something in 2018," in an interview at the Bloomberg New Energy Finance Future of Energy Summit in New York on Apr. 10.
Noting that “We’re investigating projects,” Palmer said the company is considering several possibilities, including a standalone battery farm supplying the power grid; a behind-the-meter installation at a home or business; or a system tethered to a solar or wind farm. It is possible that the project could be backed by a years-long supply contract that guarantees revenues, with the company’s still reviewing the right market for this type of investment.
The Bloomberg Technology report noted that Google is already the world’s biggest corporate buyer of wind and solar power
