BP aims for zero net emissions growth

BP announced plans for reducing emissions including zero net growth in operational emissions out to 2025 from 2015 levels, as well as a 3.5 million-ton reduction of sustainable GHG emissions in the same timeframe. The company expects to meet these goals through improved energy efficiency, fewer methane emissions and reduce flaring.

In a report, "Advancing the energy transition,” the company explained,"The world’s rising demand for energy is a real opportunity to expand our business and deliver higher returns for our investors. But as we grow, our net operational emissions won’t – and we will help others to curb their emissions. We will deliver this commitment by reducing emissions in our operations, improving our products and services, and creating low carbon businesses. This is just the latest step in our 20-plus year journey but a significant one and one we plan to build on in the years to come."The report also noted BP’s achievements in renewable energy, including:

• $200 million investment over three years in Europe’s largest solar development company
• 13 wind energy sites operated in the U.S. in seven states
• 9 million tons of CO2-equivalent avoided through renewables business in 2017
• 70% of biopower generated at BP biofuels sites goes to the local electricity grid
