Iron Mountain climbs to RE heights

Iron Mountain Inc., a global storage and information management service company, announced their U.S. data center business was entirely powered by wind and/or solar sources in 2017, while 40% of the company’s total electricity use in the U.S. came from renewable energy. These milestones were released as part of the company’s 2017 Corporate Social Responsibility report, which offers a comprehensive overview on the company's progress towards its global commitments for key Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) program goals.

"A commitment to transparency, responsibility, and empathy is personal for our employees, from the top down," said Ty Ondatje, senior vice president of corporate responsibility and chief diversity officer for Iron Mountain, in a statement. "It brings out the best in all of Iron Mountain, which both benefits and fosters a deeper engagement with our customers, our employees and our communities. Our growing commitment to environmental and social responsibility lets our stakeholders see what we aspire to accomplish, and is an invitation become part of our journey."

The report also noted the company’s progress in reducing climate pollution, including a reduction of 6.6% in global GHG emissions, achieved despite the continued growth of its business.  By the end of 2018, the company plans to announce absolute reductions in greenhouse gas emissions, setting science-based goals that align with the international Paris Climate Accord. Additionally, the company announced it has joined the RE100 initiative
