Danone North America inks PPA for 20.6 MW of wind

Danone, a Paris-based food and beverage company, entered into a 12-year agreement that will provide them with 20.6 MW of renewable energy and progress them toward their goal of sourcing 100% renewable electricity by 2030.

The agreement is expected to generate enough electricity for Danone North America to produce the equivalent of almost 800 million cups of yogurt and over 80 million gallons of milk each year. Under the agreement, Danone will receive power from Enel Green Power’s newly operational 450 MW High Lonesome wind farm, which will soon be expanding by 50 MW to accommodate the dairy producer’s needs.

“This is an exciting and significant step as we continue to advance our 2030 renewable electricity goals,” Mariano Lozano, president and CEO of Danone North America, said in a statement. “As a public benefit corporation committed to balancing the needs of our business with those of society and the planet, we truly believe that this agreement makes sense from both a business and sustainability point of view. We’re delighted to be working with Enel Green Power to expand their High Lonesome wind farm and grow the renewable electricity infrastructure here in the US.”

Once at its full 500 MW capacity, the High Lonesome wind farm is expected to generate approximately 1.9 TWh annually and offset more than 1.2 million tons of CO2 per year.
