Simpson Manufacturing cuts oil use by 65%, increases solar use

Simpson Manufacturing Co. installed solar projects and implemented efficiency upgrades to their facilities over the last year, as detailed in their newly released 2020 Sustainability Report.

The wood construction product manufacturer transitioned both their Stockton, Calif., and Sewen, Switzerland facilities to be powered by solar power. Additionally, their Boulstrup facility cut their annual oil requirements by 65% by adding hydropower and windmill-generated power from Norway and Denmark at the facility.

Their lighting improvements included using efficient T8 lighting at their McKinney, Texas, and Stockton plants introducing bi-color lighting at their plant in St. Gemme La Plaine, France. HVAC improvements were also implemented at multiple North American facilities to reclaim heat generated from the air compressors and pump it into the plant during winter and outside during summer. Their Riverside, Calif., plant also received high-performance dual-pane windows, insulated walls, thermal control zone and surface reflective roof coating to maximize heating and cooling efficiency.

"Since our founding in 1956, we have established deep-rooted core values that continue to define our business today," Karen Colonias, President and Chief Executive Officer of Simpson, said in a statement. "At the forefront of these values is doing what's right for our people, customers, communities and environment. Through this inaugural report, we are striving to better communicate our sustainability, environmental and social responsibility efforts over the years to showcase why Simpson is an attractive investment beyond just the numbers.”
