Children's Museum of Pittsburgh new building gets LEED Gold status

The Children’s Museum of Pittsburgh announced April 27 that their MuseumLab was awarded LEED Gold status by the U.S. Green Building Council for its eco-friendly design and operational practices.

MuseumLab is an interactive learning space adjacent to the Children’s Museum and has also been recognized for its design by the Center for Inclusive Design and Environmental Access, South by Southwest and the Green Building Alliance. The building’s LEED Gold certification was awarded for the implementation of strategies in sustainable site development, water savings, energy efficiency, materials selection and indoor environmental quality.

With the development of the MuseumLab project, the Children’s Museum became one of the first buildings in Pittsburgh certified under LEED Version 4  and exceeded the energy performance goals of the Pittsburgh 2030 District.

“Our green building efforts are an important part of the environment we create for our visitors as well as our community,” Jane Warner, executive director of the Children’s Museum of Pittsburgh, said in a statement. “Being LEED Gold certified confirms that we have done everything possible to nurture learning and inspire our guests in a facility that is highly sustainable.”
