Willis Tower to be powered with 100% wind

Chicago’s Willis Tower will soon be powered by 100% renewable energy through a new multi-year partnership that was announced Sept. 24.

The deal stipulated that Dynergy will provide Willis Tower with wind-powered electricity through RECs and will ensure that the tenants’ electricity costs remain the same.

"Sustainability is a top priority as we transform Willis Tower into a market-leading work environment," David Moore, senior vice president and portfolio director at EQ Office, said in a statement. "Our partnership with Dynegy is one of the many ways we're continuing our commitment to co-creating sustainable experiences in and around Willis Tower, and we're proud to further EQ's mission of making smart, green choices that improve the space around us."

Willis Tower, with its 110 stories, became the largest building in the U.S. to achieve the U.S. Green Building Council Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) Platinum certification after making significant energy, sustainability and comfort upgrades throughout the building.
