Abercrombie & Fitch to source 100% renewable energy

Abercrombie & Fitch Co. recently announced its commitment to power its global headquarters in Ohio and its distribution centers with 100% renewable energy from 2023, and subsequently signed a 13-year agreement to source all the clean electricity necessary to achieve that goal. 

The apparel retailer, which owns the brands Abercrombie & Fitch, abercrombie kids, Hollister and Gilly Hicks, signed an agreement with AEP Energy, a subsidiary of American Electric Power, for 30,000 MWh of clean energy annually. The supply is expected to cover all its electricity needs and eliminate approximately 16,000 metric tons of carbon each year. 

The electricity will power the company’s New Albany, Ohio, Global Home Office and its two New Albany Distribution Centers.

“The shift to renewable electricity in our New Albany corporate operations will contribute to our overall energy goals of reducing Total Scope 1 and 2 greenhouse gas emissions by 2030,” Kim Harr, Senior Director of Sustainability at A&F Co., said in a statement. “We developed our goals in line with science-based climate targets and international agreements including the UN Global Compact. We thank Worthington Energy Consultants and AEP Energy for their collaboration on this innovative energy solution. We’re excited to take this latest step on our sustainability journey.”
