Microsoft Adds 900 MW of Renewables to Ireland Grid

Microsoft committed to contributing to nearly 30% of Ireland’s corporate power purchase agreement target under a pack of renewable energy contracts that will support the development of more than 900 MW of onshore wind and solar projects across Ireland.

The tech company executed multi-year Corporate Power Purchase Agreements (CPPAs) with Statkraft, Energia Group and Power Capital Renewable Energy. The Irish government’s Climate Action Plan seeks for 15% of electricity demand across the country to be delivered by renewable energy CPPAs by 2030 – 28% of this target will soon be supported by Microsoft.

In addition to this announcement, Microsoft also released details of its plan to cover 100% of its data center electricity load with renewable energy by 2025.

“With these agreements, we support new renewable energy infrastructure in Ireland,” Noelle Walsh, Corporate Vice President of Cloud Operations and Innovation at Microsoft, said in a statement. “We’re proud to be partnering with leading energy providers to bring this additional renewable energy on stream and help industry and Government and the broader energy sector to achieve its climate action ambitions.”
