Climate talks see push for global renewable energy target (U.S. News & World Report)  Germany called Tuesday for governments around the world to work on setting an ambitious target for renewable energy that would “ring in the end of the fossil fuel age” and help prevent dangerous global warming. Speaking at the start of a two-day meeting in Berlin attended by dozens of top climate envoys, German Foreign Minister Annalena Baerbock said the world needs to sharply cut greenhouse gas emissions to limit global warming to 1.5 degrees Celsius (2.7 degrees Fahrenheit).

Breaking ground and cracking ammonia (Great Lakes Echo)  The University of Minnesota will break ground this fall on a plant that will produce ammonia with solar and wind energy. The new plant improves on a pilot plant the university built in 2013, said Mike Reese, the renewable energy director for the University of Minnesota West Central Research and Outreach Center. Producing ammonia from renewable energy is an important step in reducing two potent sources of greenhouse gases that cause global warming.

New York Public Service Commission turns the wheel on truck and bus charging infrastructure (Environmental Defense Fund)  After much anticipation, New York is taking a significant step to accelerate the rollout of zero-emission trucks and buses. Last week, the New York Public Service Commission formally opened a proceeding aiming to deploy the charging infrastructure needed to serve medium- and heavy-duty electric vehicles. 

ZeroAvia and Alaska Airlines unveil turboprop that could become largest green aircraft to take flight (GeekWire)  Executives from ZeroAvia and Alaska Airlines joined elected officials in Everett, Wash., on Monday to kick off an effort to electrify and fly the largest zero-emissions aircraft yet. Green aviation company ZeroAvia, which has an R&D center in Everett, ZeroAvia is outfitting a retired Dash 8 Q400 regional turboprop with its hydrogen-powered electric propulsion system. The 76-seat aircraft was provided by Alaska Airlines.
