Dominon Energy solicits bids for RE projects

A Virginia-based electric utility announced Oct. 25 that it is seeking bids for up to 500 MW of solar and onshore wind generation in the form of either power purchase agreements or the purchase of development projects.

Under Virginia's new Grid Transformation and Security Act, which became law on July 1, 2018, Dominion Energy has created a plan to develop 3,000 MW of additional solar and wind within the state by early 2022. If successful, the project would be the largest increase of renewable energy resources in Virginia's history, according to a news release.

The initiative includes issuing a Request for Proposals (RFP) each year until the 3,000 MW has been met. The solicitation announced on Oct. 25 is seeking bids for energy, capacity and Renewable Energy Certificates for new solar and onshore wind facilities at least 5 MW in size.

The RFP requires a commercial operations date in 2020 and Notices of Intent to Bid will be due by Nov. 2, 2018 with final asset purchase due Dec. 13, 2018, and power purchase proposals due March 14, 2019.
