Miami Beach Convention Center installs 30 EV charging ports

The Miami Beach Convention Center announced Dec. 5 the installation of 30 Level 2 electric vehicle charging stations through an initiative by the City of Miami Beach to reduce greenhouse gas emissions in the transportation sector, which accounted for almost 20% of the city's emissions in 2017.

The facility previously set a target to reduce its energy consumption by 20% in line with the City of Miami Beach's sustainability initiatives. In addition to the new EV charging stations, the convention center has been designed to achieve LEED Silver certification through the installation of condensed flow water fixtures, high efficiency LED lighting, light sensor, sun shading on the exterior,

The charging stations were  supplied by Blink Charging Co. and are located in the convention center's parking garage, split onto three floors, with seven dual pedestals on the fourth floor, six dual pedestals and two single pedestals on the fifth floor, and two wall-mounted chargers on columns in the loading dock. The Level 2 AC charging stations produce 80 amps of output and are able to charge any battery-electric or plug-in hybrid vehicle on the Blink Network.

“As electric vehicles grow in popularity, we are thrilled to offer our visitors and residents more charging station options on our urban island,” Miami Beach City Manager Jimmy L. Morales said in a statement. “Thank you to Blink Charging Co. for their partnership and dedication to sustainability — we must all work together to reduce our carbon footprint.”
