AECOM's target for 20% emissions cut approved by SBTi

AECOM has announced a goal to reduce scope 1 and 2 emissions by 20% and supply chain emissions by 10% before 2025 and it has been approved by the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi).

The Los Angeles-based engineering firm plans to achieve this target by phasing out inefficient fleet vehicles, pursuing opportunities for vehicle emissions reduction technology and working with suppliers to identify where most emissions are coming from. AECOM also plans to increase efforts to improve their office’s energy efficiency and pursue opportunities for renewable energy.

“During these unprecedented times, business resilience and continuity are at the forefront of what we do and how we operate so that we can help deliver a better world,” Michael S. Burke, AECOM’s chairman and chief executive officer, said in a statement. “AECOM is fully committed to mitigating the impact of climate change through our SBTi-approved greenhouse gas emissions targets as we take meaningful action to protect tomorrow for the benefit of future generations, our communities and the planet.”

AECOM is the first U.S.-based engineering and construction company to have their emissions reduction targets validated by the Science Based Targets initiative.
