Scottish Distiller Edrington Seeks Carbon Neutrality by 2030

Scottish whiskey distiller Edrington announced on June 22 that it has signed an agreement to use 100% renewable energy. This deal is an effort to reach carbon neutrality by 2030.

Edrington’s Scottish distilleries (The Macallan, Highland Park and The Glenrothes), as well as its production sites (including The Clyde Cooperage and Great Western Road bottling facility), will be annually supplied with 50 GWh of power output from six wind turbines at Wardlaw Wood Wind Farm outside Dalry, North Ayrshire.

“Edrington is committed to becoming a carbon-neutral business by 2030 for our distilleries, offices and travel, and reducing greenhouse gas emissions by at least 70% compared to 2016 levels,” Edrington’s head of carbon reduction Graham MacWilliam said in a statement.

Edrington’s energy advisor Energy Edge Consulting structured the agreement. Wardlaw Wood Wind Farm was developed, built and is operated by the Community Windpower Group.
