Microsoft will purchase the electricity and renewable energy credits (RECs) generated at the Hardin III Solar Energy Center in Ohio through a power purchase agreement (PPA).
Invenergy, a North American developer, owner and operator of clean energy solutions, announced that the Hardin III Solar Energy Center (250 MW) recently commenced operations. The energy center is the third Invenergy-developed solar facility completed in Hardin County, Ohio.
WEC Energy Group is the majority owner of Hardin III.
“Hardin III Solar is the culmination of a decade-long collaboration with Hardin County and the local community,” said Michael Kaplan, Senior Vice President of Development at Invenergy, in a statement. “We’re proud to have worked with dedicated partners to deliver meaningful local investment and support home-grown energy here in Ohio.”
Microsoft also recently signed a long-term PPA for wind power. The tech company signed with Clearway Energy Group to receive power from the 335-megawatt (MW) Mount Storm wind farm located in Grant County, West Virginia.
