Keurig Dr Pepper releases 2019 sustainability report

Keurig Dr Pepper announced Aug. 25 their progress on their climate goals and committed to reducing Scope 1 and 2 emissions by 30% before 2030.

In their newly released sustainability report, the beverage company also committed to reducing Scope 3 emissions in select categories by 15% before 2030. They plan to tackle climate chain issues throughout their value chain by focusing on sourcing, production, distribution, consumption and post-consumer use. In 2019, they improved the roasting energy intensity in their Mexico operations by 2%, leading to a lifetime roasting energy efficiency improvement of 32%.

In order to improve fleet efficiency, Keurig Dr Pepper converted with forklifts at their Jacksonville, Fla., distribution center with electric models and in Mexico converted 90% of their car fleet to liquefied petroleum gas, which resulted in about a 23% reduction in greenhouse gas emissions.

"The momentum against our Drink Well. Do Good. efforts in 2019, our first calendar year operating as one Keurig Dr Pepper team, reflects the central role corporate responsibility has at our Company," Monique Oxender, Chief Sustainability Officer at Keurig Dr Pepper, said in a statement. "We made progress against all our areas of focus, including reducing packaging waste and increasing circularity of our products, with 87% of packaging now recyclable and 20% made with post-consumer recycled (PCR) content. Importantly, as committed to in our last report, our new emissions targets approved by the Science Based Target initiative provide a clear path to reduce our greenhouse gas emissions."

The company has implemented initiatives to help them reach their goals of reducing greenhouse gas emissions and building climate resilience throughout the value chain. Their emissions targets were approved by the Science Based Target initiative and are aligned with the Paris Agreement.
