Siemens Energy’s CO2 Reduction Targets Verified by SBTi
Siemens Energy announced that the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi) had verified the company's CO2 reduction targets, confirming that the company's goals comply with the Paris Agreement and contribute to limiting global warming to the extent stipulated in the agreement.
Siemens Energy's sustainability targets (Scope 1 & 2) are to become climate neutral by 2030. The company plans to invest in its own operations and convert its electricity consumption to 100% green energy by 2023 to accomplish this goal.
Products in the gas and power segment will reduce GHG emissions (Scope 3) by 27.5% 2030 over a lifetime compared to 2019. Siemens Energy will continue to promote the increased efficiency of its products. In 2020, Siemens Energy ended any new business with coal-fired power plants. To significantly contribute to the decarbonization of power grids, the company will successively switch to SF6-free products.
In a statement, Dr. Christian Bruch, Chief Executive Officer of Siemens Energy, said, “We believe that innovative technologies are the key to combating climate change. The energy transition is a big change and challenge but with much potential. We will all have to contribute and accept changes in our environment.”
