P&G achieves 100% RE purchases ahead of 2020 goal

Procter & Gamble has achieved its 2020 goal of purchasing 100% renewable electricity in the U.S. and Canada, and extended that success by achieving 100% renewables in Western Europe as well.

The company announced the achievement Thursday as a milestone toward their goal to purchase 100% renewable electricity globally by 2030.

“We are proud of our efforts to reduce our environmental footprint and leave the world a better place for generations to come,” Virginie Helias, P&G’s Chief Sustainability Officer, said in a statement. “Our primary goal is, and will continue to be, to deliver the superior products our consumers can trust, with the reassurance that behind each P&G product is a supply chain committed to environmental responsibility.”

The largest contributor within P&G’s renewables portfolio is the Tyler Bluff wind farm in Texas, which offsets 100% of the electricity needed for Fabric and Home Care facilities in the U.S. and Canada. Another large portion is supplied by the onsite combined heat and power biomass facility in Albany, Ga., which provides 100% of the Bounty and Charmin steam requirements at this site.

Additionally, P&G is reducing its emissions through a diverse portfolio of wind, solar, geothermal, hydro and REC projects.
