Intuit Launches Platform to Help Small Business Cut Emissions

Intuit announced Nov. 2 a new initiative to help 1 million US small businesses cut their carbon emissions by 50% by 2030 and align their goals with the UN Race to Zero campaign.

The financial tech company launched the Intuit Climate Action Marketplace, where small business owners in the US and UK can access resources for reducing emissions at scale while growing their business, including products and services from 12 initial solution-providers across the energy, travel, food waste, commuting and procurement sectors. A study conducted by QuickBooks in September found that nearly 97% of small businesses want to take action to be more environmentally responsible.

“Small businesses are the backbone of the global economy and can collectively help us make big strides in solving the climate crisis,” Cassie Divine, Intuit senior vice president of QuickBooks Platform, said in a statement. “We are committed to empowering our small business community to make a measurable, positive impact on the environment, while also helping them run their business more effectively. Climate change is a palpable issue, and the new Intuit Climate Action Marketplace makes it easier for small business owners, self-employed individuals and entrepreneurs to get connected with climate solutions.”

Intuit hopes the marketplace will inspire small businesses to commit to achieving net-zero emissions by 2050 in line with the Race to Zero campaign. Intuit QuickBooks made a similar commitment in August to help 30,000 UK-based small businesses pursue climate targets through a similar platform. The launch of the Climate Action Marketplace will expand the programs available to business owners for enacting climate-positive solutions in their business.

Sean Kinghorn, Intuit's Global Sustainability Leader, will present a "Project Spotlight" on this new initiative at Smart Energy Decisions' Renewable Energy Forum, December 6-8, 2021 at the Hyatt Regency Resort, Huntington Beach, California.
