BXP Commits to 50 MW Solar Capacity

BXP, a developer, owner, and manager of workplaces, announced the company increased its clean energy commitments to over 50 MW of on-site and off-site solar capacity.

BXP, a developer, owner, and manager of workplaces, announced the company increased its clean energy commitments to over 50 MW of on-site and off-site solar capacity.

The company also achieved carbon-neutral operations for GHG emissions for Scopes 1 and 2 and adopted new 2030 energy and water intensity targets and science-based greenhouse gas emissions reduction targets.

BXP improved energy efficiency by achieving a 0.5% like-for-like energy use reduction and maintaining an energy intensity reduction of 39% below a 2008 base year.

In 2025, the Estonian Solar Project, a solar and storage project in Delta County, Texas, came online. The solar project is expected to generate around 499 GWh of clean electricity annually, and Enel North America is selling 21 MW of solar power from the project to BXP. This large-scale PPA plays a key role in advancing BXP’s commitment to achieve Scope 2 GHG emission reduction targets.

BXP partnered with Walden Renewables Development to execute a long-term solar PPA for the Nutes Solar project in Farmington, New Hampshire. BXP is the sole offtaker of the 20-MW project, which will provide local clean power generation. The ISO-New England grid-tied project will serve BXP properties in the Boston region. Nutes Solar supports BXP’s overall energy procurement strategy, including direct project participation when the company can strategically support cost-effective clean power additions. Development of this project is underway with commercial operation expected in 2026.

The company also increased its total property area certified under the U.S. Green Building Council Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) rating system to 34.9 million square feet, of which 91% is certified at the highest Gold and Platinum levels.

As announced in its 2024 Sustainability & Impact Report, BXP was named an ENERGY STAR Partner of the Year – Sustained Excellence Award Winner and continued its tenure as a Green Lease Leader at the highest Platinum Level by the Institute for Market Transformation and the U.S. Department of Energy.

“Excellence and leadership in sustainability is increasingly important to our clients, communities, and capital providers,” said Owen Thomas, Chairman and CEO of BXP in a statement. “Our focus on measurable impact for our community of stakeholders is core to our strategy and an important driver of our continued success.”
