Donaldson Completes 134 Energy Efficiency Projects

The Donaldson Company, a global manufacturer of filtration products and solutions, announced it finished 134 energy efficiency projects across its operations.

The Donaldson Company, a global manufacturer of filtration products and solutions, announced it finished 134 energy efficiency projects across its operations that produced an estimated energy reduction of 14,961 MWh and 4,219 mt CO2e annually.

Projects that drove significant emission reduction included improving the utilization of existing washers for cleaning metal parts and eliminating some legacy systems without impacting production throughput, which occurred at five sites globally for a total annualized savings of 4,729 MWh and 1,028 mt CO2e.

Donaldson also achieved annualized savings of 792 mt CO2e and 1,700 MWh from 23 projects focused on making compressed air systems in its operations more efficient and reached annualized savings of 1,196 mt CO2e and 4,500 MWh from 36 projects around HVAC systems at its plant.

The company lowered its Scope 1 and 2 GHG emissions by 18% from fiscal year 2021 and increased its renewable energy use by 40% during the same time period. Donaldson announced that 7.1% of its energy use came from renewable energy sources, including an on-site solar array added at its Thailand facility and its Latin America Distribution Center in Mexico.

The company additionally announced the signing a large-scale solar Virtual Power Purchase Agreement (VPPA) to support U.S. electricity demand decarbonization. Donaldson and PepsiCo joined a VPPA to build a solar energy project in Texas that is expected to offset a majority of its U.S. electrical energy demand once completed, which is projected to occur at the end of December 2025.

Donaldson published these details and more in its fiscal year 2024 Sustainability Report. The report details progress against the company’s 2030 sustainability ambitions and outlines actions taken to reduce environmental impact.

“Our sustainability strategy — Filtration for a Thriving Future — is tightly integrated with how we drive innovation, serve customers, and manage risk,” said CEO Tod Carpenter in a statement. “Fiscal 2024 was marked by tangible progress, with continued execution of initiatives that create value for our stakeholders and position Donaldson for long-term growth.”
