Kilroy Realty Establishes 2030 Sustainability Goals

Kilroy Realty Corporation announced a new set of 2030 sustainability goals covering a range of environmental metrics.

Kilroy Realty Corporation announced a new set of 2030 sustainability goals covering a range of environmental metrics.

The company’s goals include achieving a 10% reduction in portfolio average Energy Use Intensity (EUI) by 2030 relative to a 2023 baseline and expanding installed onsite solar capacity to 8 megawatts by 2030.

Kilroy also seeks to achieve a 10% reduction in onsite GHG emissions intensity by 2030 relative to a 2023 baseline and maintain carbon neutral operations through 2030.

The company further announced plans to achieve 85% LEED certification for the stabilized portfolio by 2030, reach 70% ENERGY STAR certification for the stabilized portfolio by 2030, reduce embodied carbon by at least 15% on all new development projects, design and build all new development projects to be all-electric, and conduct assessments for on-site solar feasibility at all new development projects.

In 2024, the company conducted a preliminary Scope 3 assessment, beginning with the collection or estimation of 2023 data for the material categories. It followed the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) Scope 3 Inventory Guidance to determine relevant Scope 3 categories and estimate GHG emissions, with a goal to complete this process using 2024 data.

As a building owner, the company worked with tenants in 2024 to provision their meters in Gridium, a data management platform that allows the company to better track energy usage and identify ways to improve building performance.

Kilroy Realty also works  to reduce tenant building emissions by undertaking efficiency projects, installing on-site renewables and procuring renewable electricity from utilities.

The company maintained carbon neutral operations for the fifth consecutive year, received the ENERGY STAR Partner of the Year Award for the eleventh consecutive year and the ENERGY STAR Sustained Excellence Award for the ninth consecutive year, and maintained a position on the U.S. EPA Green Power Partnership National Top 100 List.

“Over the past year we have taken meaningful strides to more deeply embed sustainability into our strategy and operations,” said CEO Angela Aman in a statement. “Successful execution of sustainability efforts requires innovation, leadership, and most importantly, collaboration between colleagues across the entire organization.”
