Liberty Tire Recycling, a North American provider of tire recycling services, announced a 1.5% reduction in GHG emissions year-over-year amid company growth and acquisitions.

The company’s 2030 goal is to increase miles per gallon (MPG) by 20%, and its 2032 goal is to lower the amount of energy used per ton of production by 25%.

Liberty has been working on improving fuel efficiency, which lowers diesel consumption, and Scope 1 mobile sources emissions from company-operated vehicles. It has also been reducing energy intensity to decrease Scope 1 stationary combustion and Scope 2 purchased electricity emissions.

With a fleet of 538 trucks, fuel efficiency presents a key opportunity to reduce Scope 1 emissions and lower transportation costs for the company. Since 2021, Liberty has focused on fleet efficiency, making progress in route optimization and improved fuel economy.

In 2024, Liberty refined its focus specifically on fuel efficiency by leveraging available technology through the implementation of Samsara. Samsara is a fleet management platform that uses GPS tracking and telematics to monitor vehicle performance, fuel usage and driver behavior. This fleet technology advancement enabled Liberty to take its original goal of improving fleet efficiency by 30% by 2032 and define it into a more actionable and high-impact target to improve fuel efficiency by 20% by 2030.

To achieve this goal, the company will prioritize idle time reduction, driver habit coaching and route optimization.

“At Liberty, we don’t just recycle tires, we partner with others to build a better future,” said Thomas Womble, CEO of Liberty Tire Recycling, in a statement. “Whether it’s a global manufacturer, local retailer, or city government, our partners trust Liberty to help them meet their sustainability goals and do right by their communities. This report is a reflection of what responsible growth looks like — when innovation, impact, and partnership work hand-in-hand.”
