Meta Signs PPAs for 650 MW of Solar Capacity in Texas, Kansas

Social media company Meta announced it entered into two long-term Power Purchase Agreements (PPA) to support its data centers with 650 MW of solar projects.

Social media company Meta announced it entered into two long-term Power Purchase Agreements (PPA) to support its data centers with 650 MW of solar projects.

The agreement was signed with AES Corporation for the Kansas and Texas solar projects that the company is bringing online in the Southwest Power Pool (SPP) market, which operates the electric grid and wholesale power market for the central U.S.

“We are thrilled to work with AES to bring forward these two solar energy projects,” said Urvi Parekh, global head of energy, Meta, in a statement. “These solutions support our goal for 100% clean and renewable energy and will add new generation to the grid in these markets.”

In April, Meta announced it plans to add solar generation in Idaho. The company signed the agreement with Matrix Renewables, a global renewable energy platform backed by TPG Rise and majority owner, and rPlus Energies, development partner and minority owner.

Meta will commission Pleasant Valley Solar 1, a solar power generation facility in Ada County, Idaho, with a capacity of approximately 200 MWac/261 MWdc, making it the largest operational solar facility in Idaho Power’s system.

Pleasant Valley Solar 1 includes a power purchase agreement (PPA) that was secured through negotiation with Meta and Idaho Power.
