Software company Microsoft signed a long-term power purchase agreement for wind power in West Virginia.

Software company Microsoft signed a long-term power purchase agreement (PPA) for wind power.

Microsoft signed with Clearway Energy Group to receive power from the 335-megawatt (MW) Mount Storm wind farm located in Grant County, West Virginia.

Mount Storm will support Microsoft’s sustainability and decarbonization goals by generating carbon-free energy.

“Clearway is thrilled to announce our work with Microsoft on the Mount Storm project. We are proud to support the development of renewable energy and economic growth in the community,” said Valerie Wooley, Senior Vice President of Origination at Clearway, in a statement.

Microsoft also recently signed several renewable energy deals. The company announced a multi-year agreement to deploy up to 100 MW of renewable energy projects over the next three years in historically underinvested communities in Louisiana and Arkansas.

The company also added three solar projects in Illinois and Texas that will provide clean energy supporting the company’s sustainability and carbon reduction goals. EDP, through EDP Renewables North America, announced that it had delivered three new utility-scale solar projects totaling 400 MW, according to a statement

Microsoft agreed to purchase 389 MW of electricity and renewable energy credits (RECs) from the projects through long-term virtual power purchase agreements (VPPAs). The delivery of these projects brings the total operational portfolio between the two companies in the U.S. to five projects.
