Munters Receives SBTi Approval for Targets

Munters adopted new climate targets to reduce emissions related to the use of the company’s products and its own operations which were validated by the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi).

Munters adopted new climate targets to reduce emissions related to the use of the company’s products and its own operations which were validated by the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi).

The analysis on which the company’s goals are based was conducted in 2024 and confirms that over 99% of Munters’ climate impact stems from energy use related to the use phase of its products.

Munters is a global company that manufactures dehumidification and cooling equipment used by customers in a variety of industries.

Based on its new data, Munters has set a target to reduce carbon emissions from product usage (Scope 3, Category 11) by an average of 51.6% per unit sold by 2030 with a base year of 2023. Previously, Munters’ targets only included direct and indirect emissions from its own operations (Scope 1 and 2). This shift means that product development will play a more explicit role in Munters sustainability priorities moving forward, the company said in a statement

“Our products are a critical part of the industrial infrastructure in large parts of the world, giving us at Munters an opportunity to contribute to our customers’ resource efficiency and consequently, to countering climate change. We are already investing in innovation that improves energy efficiency, and with these new targets, we are committing to a clear, ambitious, and science-based plan,” said Andréa Haag, Vice President Sustainability at Munters.

The company plans to lower carbon emissions in its own operations where the updated goal is to cut Scope 1 and 2 emissions by 42% by 2030 with the 2023 base year. Munters’ previous target for Scope 1 and 2 was to reach net zero emissions by 2030. This is effectively a more comprehensive commitment, as the new target accounts for the company’s growth and acquisitions.
